Development of Cultivation Technology for Safe Production of Medicinal Herbs and New Economic Crops
The Medicinal Herb Experimental Station takes the initiative for implementing the agricultural administration for three pleasures of farmers (Farmers feeling rewarded, Farming with the right compensation, and the Farming village filled with people) by developing practical cultivation technologies, utilizing local products including ginseng, yams, and schizandra.
JBARES investigates the technology to cultivate ginseng under rain shelter facilities, the cultivation technology for the stable production of medicinal herbs and the development of new economic crops and distributing goods to farmers, which can help to solve difficulties of farmers cultivating medicinal herbs and securing GAP production system for medicinal herbs in a small area. Moreover, JBARES endeavors to develop advanced farmers through education and helps to solve the difficulties of farmers through research institutes and medicinal herb classes.

Development of Special Crops in Eastern Mountain Region
The herb experimental station in the quasi-alpine area of the southern region carries out research on the activation of the sixth industry, including the formation of the landscape and the development of experience programs, using foreign herbs, for promoting the tourism industry through the herb industry. It also distributes and investigates the seed potatoes without diseases, and endeavors to secure the potato cultivation technology system which draws substantial attention as the local specialty crop. Wild vegetables including narrow-head ragwort have been investigated for development as new economic crops.

Development of New Paprika Varieties and Cultivation Technology
The only paprika experimental station in Korea develops and investigates new varieties with yield potential suitable for the domestic climate, and gives the impetus to paprika research focusing on the development of technology to reduce physiological disorders, manage the nutrients, and the water supply in aquaculture, setting the proper dimensions, implementing the nutrient solution system for nutrient solution prescription, and increasing the number of goods. It develops the paprika industry, including the stable management of farm products for export, the development of technology to solve difficulties on sites and the distribution of cultivation manuals.

Development of New Watermelon Varieties and Cultivation Technology
The Watermelon Experiment Station was designated as the only institute to manage watermelon genetic resources by the Rural Development Administration, and has about 2,000 various genetic resources. On the basis of such genetic resources, it has been developing seedless watermelons and small watermelon varieties with different color skin. It investigates a variety of technologies, including the technology for the stable production of seedless watermelons, the technology for quality labor-saving culture using ICT, the technology for high yields of small fruits, the technology for tunnel cultivation on high lands and the technology for organic cultivation in order to solve difficulties occurring in farms in accordance with the emergence of new varieties and technologies and change of consumption patterns. It also endeavors to increase the income of watermelon farmers by organizing the Korea Watermelon Farmers Association and operating professional training courses, the Clinic Center Field Mobility Team, with masters and experts and the Expansion Promotion Organization for implementing a system to expand the prestige watermelons of Jeonbuk State.
